I love wearing salwar kurtas. They are so comfortable and feminine. I feel dressed up while being extremely comfortable. My daughter, one day, seeing me wear one said she wanted one too.

I finally made her one using an old one I had that didn’t fit me anymore. Upcycling for the win!

I loosely based the kurta (top) on the Bella Sunshine Deigns Alice Pleated Dress. I have used this pattern’s bodice for many of my daughter’s past makes with a combination of a sleeve pattern from
Violette Field Threads Josephine Dress, since
Alice doesn’t have a sleeve.

Taking the bodice, I then extended the kurta using my notes to draft my own kurta. I wish I remember what site I used to get this. If I ever find it again, I’ll update it here.

I added a slit down the back a bit, to help get it on and off easier.

The salwar (bottom pants) are patiala style. Which has many pleats on both back and front.

I used the tutorial My Thread Creations had put together for this. I reused the top of the salwar so I didn’t remake the casing and such. Also, instead of a drawstring, I used elastic to help with potty time.

Another thing was to add pockets top the salwar. I have modified my own salwars with this so it was an easy mod.

Things I would change:
1. I would widen the bottom of the kurta by about 3/4″ to 1″
2. The button slit needs to be about 1″ longer for better on and off.
3. Use a thicker interfacing at the bottom of the salwar.
