I joined the Love Notions Brand Ambassador team a few weeks ago and today is the first Feature Friday sale that I could take part in. This week, the Cartwheel Collection is on sale for $5 and it is such a great deal! Update: Sale is running through Saturday.

Pattern Description:
This pattern has SIX different patterns rolled in one – dress, tunic, shirt, shorts, capris, and skirt. The dress and shirt have a peek-a-boo back design; and the skirt is perfect for twirling and cartwheels!

Pattern Sizes: Run from size 2T to 14

My thoughts on the pattern: I made the dress pattern which is a classic fit and flare. I love the shape and especially the back design, adds some oomph to a simple back.

Fabric Used:
I showed the pictures to Miss L and she decided she wanted a dress, which comes with a peek-a-boo back, but she wanted it long dress with longer sleeves. It is still cold and she dislikes wearing undershirts and sweaters.

Then came the fun part, she picked out a teal ruffle fabric from my fabric library. I happened to have a matching knit that I could use with it. Ruffle fabric came from Joann Fabrics and the cotton knit from Fabric Mart.

It was my first time sewing with the ruffle fabric. To keep all the ruffles going one way, I baste stitched down all the sides. For the hem, I moved away the bottom ruffle and hemmed the front separately from the back.

I lined the front with the cotton knit, and doubled up on the back side since it was a bit transparent. The feeling of a thicker knit is so pleasing, I just want to pet it.

Pattern Modifications:
I made a straight size 3T but lengthened the dress by 9″ to make it a maxi. I tried to keep the shape as close to the original. The pattern sleeves are short, so I used the 3/4″ sleeve pattern from Love Notions Lil’ Laundry Day Tee to lengthened, keeping the original sleeve cap.

Added some embroidery to the front and finished the sleeves with two rows of ruffle fabric.

Would I sew it again? Would I recommend it to others? Absolutely! If my daughter gives the okay, I really want to make the skirt. And I will be creating some shorts and capris for the summer as well.

Make sure to get your copy of the Cartwheel Collection TODAY before the sale ends!
