Everyone needs a good hoodie in their life, am I right? If you are in search for a hoodie for yourself (female or male) or a child, I have the prefect patterns for you. And, you’re in luck, they are on sale today. Keep reading for the details.

The pattern

Love Notions has a pullover for each member in your family, full with options on each. In general, it is a half zip front with kangaroo pockets. Optional hood makes it perfect for ultimate coziness, but the collar version is great too.

For the female version, you can pick from band or curved hem. The cuffs also have thumb hole options.

These patterns are a loose fit, great for layering.

Sizing

Constellation goes from XS- 5X: Bust 33″ – 57.5″, Hips 35.5″-59.5″ and has full bust options.

North Star goes from XS-XXXL: Chest 34″-50″, Hips 33.5″ – 47.5″

Navigator goes from 2T-16: Chest 20.5″-33″. Hips 21″-33″

The fabric

The recommended fabrics for all three are stable knits like ponte, sweater knit, fleece, sweatshirt knit, or French terry. The pattern makes it great for color blocking with different fabrics.

What I used

I used a sweatshirt fleece with not to much stretch, so I sized up. Actually, I used the same pattern pieces I traced out the year before to make a quilted jacket. Lilli has grown since then, but I had oversized the pattern to accommodate the quilting so it was perfect for her current sizing. However, I was trying to upcycle a tester garment that had gone wrong so I pieced together the sweatshirt fabric.

The modifications

Lilli doesn’t like pullovers much so I made the hoodie with a separating zipper. Actually I have the same preference, so whenever I end up making the Constellation, I will also make it with a separating zipper.

The modification isn’t too hard. You DO want to add seam allowance to the bottom front piece and kangaroo pocket piece.

I lined the jacket with rip-stop nylon to allow for easy on and off, so the zipper is finished with the lining. But if you were adding a hem band, you would add seam allowance to that too.

For the hood, I decided to switch the nylon to the outside to help it be water resistant when it rains.

customization
Embroidery

I chose to embroider the sweatshirt fabric before attaching to the lining, this way the threads were hidden away. I used rainbow embroidery thread to draw a bunch of sea animals and plants all over. This helped distract from the pieced together fabric.

School of fish with air bubbles
Rainbow turtle
Jellyfish and kelp on the sleeve
Octopus and random lines to top stitch the two pieces of fabric down.
conclusion

I have made the Navigator twice so far, neither in the same capacity, so I can say it is a great pattern to build off of and make your own hoodie, jacket, outerwear. So I highly recommend it, along with the whole family of pullovers. If you get it today, each one is just $5, and you can apply an additional discount by using code BEE10.
