The Love Notions Margot peplum is one of the shirts I made first for my self. Before that, I didn’t think even think peplums would work for me. But I wear the two, I made last year, constantly. Proving again, that it’s all about the fit.
Tami re-released the Margot today using her new pattern block, and it is on sale so go get your copy!
I had to make one again. Except, this time, I got the idea to hack it into a dress. And I am not the only one. Check out the Facebook group for more dress ideas! The Maggie Peplum (kids version) is also on sale only for today!
Pattern Info
The peplum has two bodice options, plain and princess seam. It also includes an FBA piece so you don’t have to do it yourself! There are peplum skirt options – gathered, pleated, or swing. You can definitely make it your own!
Fabric Used
I have had this mustard yellow fabric for aaages. Let’s see, I was not pregnant so at least 5 years, possibly 6 years ago – from G-street Fabrics. It was in their $2.95/yard pile and I wanted to make a mustard yellow skirt. I didn’t think I had enough, so I went back and found another cut of the same thing and bought that as well.
The straight of grain was so skewed that a lot of fabric had to be wasted with this. The grain was a least 15 degrees off!
Modifications
Short torso adjustments – same as last time. Bust line moved up 1/2″. Shortened bottom of bodice by 1.75″.
Bust adjustments – I believe I moved some of tge width from the center front piece to the side pieces to get the princess seam to hit on the right spot.
Sway back adjustments – removed 7/8″ from center back grading to nothing at the sides. This prevents the skirt from dipping down.
Hacks
To add some contrast and color, I added a dark blue waistband. This is not part of the pattern, just something I have seen other places and wanted to try it out.
Then I added a WHOLE bunch of length to the skirt. I didn’t know how much to add so I put the bodice together first. Then measured with the bodice on. Total length of skirt is 40″.
My trick this time was to add length while on a cutting mat. Using the grid lines to create my “alignment” lines down all the way. Kept everything so much neater that way.
The free-motion embroidery was another way to add some color. The hardest part is coming up with a design! I used Aurifil variegated thread and love the color changes.
I also hacked the Maggie Peplum into a dress, doing the same as mine. I will probably shorten L’s bodice a bit next time as I feel it’s too long. She had a short torso like me.
We had fun twinning again with the Margot and Maggie. I guess this pair works for us 🙂 Don’t forget to get your copy before the sale ends on April 21st.
[…] some don’t fit, some are stained. But I still like the fabric I used for them. Like this Margot dress I made in 2019. I loved the color, and the dress but it was stained in areas that couldn’t be […]
