What does Dory have in common with pineapples?
.
.
Not much! Eeeexcept for the latest Sansahash dress release, Harmania Dress.
As with the previous two Sansahash tests I’ve done, fit has been on point with this one too!
Pattern Description:
Harmania has a some options to make it just the way you want it – spaghetti straps or sleeves (short, 3/4 and long); as well as additional godets to make a full circle dress! I love the slightly fitted bodice with the flare out bottom.
Make sure to get the Harmania Dress pattern while it is on sale now through June 26, 2018!! And if you join the Sansahash Facebook group, you will get an additional coupon code to use.
Pattern Sizes:
The pattern goes from 6m – 12. Max chest is 30.75″ and height is 60″; giving plenty of room to grow with your girl! My dresses were blended with chest and waist at 18m and height at 2.
My thoughts on the pattern:
This pattern, if you go simple like me, can be cut and constructed under 2 hours! Only 5 pattern pieces make it so so easy to put together.
I loved the blank canvas the dress gives you. Great for panel or border prints (check out the other bloggers).
Oooor if your daughter loves Finding Dory, then its a great way to get Dory and her friends on to a dress with a mixture of freehand embroidery and fabric painting.
Dory is an applique with some paint on there. Squirt the turtle is outlined with stitches and painted in. The little fishes and water bubbles are all done with fabric paint pens. These are the pens I used.
Destiny was outlined with the machine and painted in.
Pattern Modifications:
I added ruffled tulle for some more flare and a bit of pizzazz to pineapples. (note – this is not part of the pattern).
Strips of fabric, that went through the rolled hemmed feature on my serger, was attached to the bottom of the purple one, gives a water/wave effect. The dress was hemmed as per instructions prior to sewing the fabric strips.
How I achieved this was to initially pinned down the fabric strips to the front bodice piece while the side seams were still not serged. I then serged the side seams and removed the pins. When it came time to hem the bottom, I did the front piece separately making sure not to go over the attached strips. Then I pinned the fabric strips again attached it using a chain stitch.
Fabric Used:
Pineapples – polyester/lycra blend picked out by little miss.
Dory – cotton jersey from my stash – I think I have had this fabric for a good 6 years.
Would I sew it again? Would I recommend it to others?
Yes! I definitely plan to make more as she grows out of her current clothes. This is also a great beginner pattern to start with and still be super stylish!
The dress is great for playing with balloons or flying an airplane!
