I’ve had a hard time finding swim wear – between being in weird size range and not liking what is offered out there. This past summer, we went to a lake house and I finally decided to make my own swim wear using the Love Notions Resolutions Bottoms.

The pattern

The Resolution Bottoms is a geat pattern to have for all your athleisure bottom needs. It has 5 views: joggers, straight leg yoga pants, bootcut yoga pants, plain leggings and leggings with a moto panel.

You can make the pants using a contoured waistband or yoga style if you want to go elastic free.

The Resolutions are very beginner friendly have a sew-along if you need extra hand holding through the steps.

The Resolution Bottoms are on sale today for $5 only (Oct 28, 2022). I highly recommend you grab this versatile pattern.

I made the plain leggings and cut it to above the knee for long shorts; and used the contoured waistband with elastic.

The fabric

I had some black swim fabric I was waiting to use for Lilli, but decided to use it for myself instead. I think I got it from Fabric.com but am not sure anymore as it was a few years back; however, I did not use a swim lining for this, as I was on a time crunch.

The modifications
Sizing

Being in between L and XL, I chose the size XL because I don’t like tight fitting pants. Other adjustments: 1″ full belly adjustment and added 1″ to the back yoke.

Then I removed the skirt from my old swim skorts that didn’t fit that well and added it to the pants before I attached the waistband.

I also added a gusset since it was a swimwear – I copied the diamond gusset from my old skort and attached it before sewing up the crotch.

conclusion

These resolution swim shorts fit so nicely that I definitely want to try making full leggings! Store bought ones are always either too tight in my belly area or too loose in the legs – leading me to not wear leggings much at all. I also really want to try the straight leg view to replace some of my worn out pants. Will you give them a try?

And if you like, here are some pictures from the lake house.

How to support my work

A lot of time and effort goes into these posts – sewing, filming/editing videos and photos, writing the blogs – and if love the content and find it valuable to your own sewing, you can support me financially in a non-committal manner by purchasing me a ”coffee” through Ko-Fi here.  $3 gets me one cup of “coffee”. Thank you!
