Welcome to Bee Threadly! My name is Anjori and I’m thrilled you are here.
I’m a computer engineering grad turned software developer turned project manager turned seamstress. That’s a lot of changes! But one thing I can say is I will always be a seamstress. I love creating with my hands and making something out of a flat piece of fabric is an amazing feeling. Not to mention, it is my therapy from the hectic lives we lead.
I first bought a sewing machine in 2010 to make a crinoline slip for a wedding I was attending. It was a themed wedding and I needed a fancy poodle skirt like dress. I had found the dress, but I couldn’t find anything that was affordable at the time. What I did find was many tutorials on how to make a crinoline slip. So, I did the most logical thing, I bought a sewing machine, second hand because I didn’t know if I really was going to be sewing long term. The slip I made did the job, but it was definitely crude.
I slowly started altering my clothes to fit better. And then started projects and more projects. My mind was swirling with ideas on what to make next. I used to have another blog but lost it all so I have sparse documentation of the things.
After a few years of sewing, I bought a new sewing machine and basically ran it to the ground. I was making shawls for my best friend’s wedding when I burnt out the motor. I had to borrow my mom’s old machine to finish the job and started my hunt for a new and better sewing machine. A few months later, I was the owner of the Juki F-600. I’m in LOVE with that machine. It has so many features and does so well with anything I sew. A couple years after that, I made my next big purchase of a serger/coverstitch combo machine, Juki M-735. It was a love hate relationship for a while but I have figured out its quirks and love it now too.
It’s been a long journey here, and I would love for you to stick around to see what I make next.
